Tutorial for Sekonic L-758DR: How to create a custom profileNOTE: This tutorial was created using the original calibration target and version 1 of the Sekonic Data Transfer software. Since writing this, the new Calibration Target II and version 2 of the Sekonic Data Transfer software have been released.
You can still use this procedure with version 1 or you can and use either the original target or the new Target II.I’m posting this how-to in an attempt to clarify the horrible manual that accompanies the data transfer software and to demystify the process. There is no doubt that doing a full custom profile is time consuming and does leave a lot of room for human error but after having spoken to the L-758DR project manager and performing the procedure several times I have a grasp on the process and can perhaps shed some light on this topic.I think that for most people, if you already own an L-758DR you’ve got one of the finest meters out there so to think that the custom profile is a must just isn’t so. Not one response huh? TMR Design wrote inNot one response huh? Well I hope someone benefits from this tutorial.Should I assume that:a) Everyone with this meter already knows how to create a custom profile.b) Those with this meter can't be bothered with this tedious process on a meter that is already very precise.c) No one got the calibration target, so a custom profile can't be created. In any event, if you own a Canon 30D or a Nikon D70 I have custom profiles for both and would be more than happy to share them.I don't think there are too many people who have the L-758, yet. AAMOF, you're the only one I know of. But give it some time, I'm sure someone will come along who can benefit from your post which, btw, I truly appreciate even though I don't have that meter because of the time and effort you took to create the post and share your knowledge with the other member here.Leo.

Hi Robert, writing to you from Australia regarding your post on the Sekonic 758. Ive just ordered one and want to thank you for your info. I have a 30D and some nice lenses and would very much appreciate the profile for the meter. Also, any other tips and tricks with the 30D!
Eg, do you use a standard color profile in the camerasetup, or a user defined one? Also i just brought an Epson 3800 printer - Nice, happy with it so far, but do you know if im better setting the camera to Srgb, or Adobe RGB? Any tips would be more than welcome, thanks - MarkMark1DMK4, 5Dmk2, Nikon D3s & some glass to fit. If you could clarify or ask more specific questions I'll try and answer them.I must admit that I'm not the one to talk to about color profiles. There are many more knowledgeable people here and tons of threads on that subject. I have always used sRGB but keep in mind that performing this test does not require any special or custom profiles, just that you set up custom white balance before taking your test shots.Robert.
